Stats Don't Lie:

Sweden knocked off Russia 81-62 to collect their first victory in Group D in Koper to stay in the running for the Second Round at EuroBasket 2013.

The win was Sweden's second in EuroBasket history, following their triumph over Russia 100-92 in 1993.

"This one game matched what we had in our history. With one more victory in our final two games, we can double that total. But I think the guys have the mindset to win both, which I wouldn't mind," said Sweden coach Brad Dean.

"We are learning as we go. We made adjustments, players made adjustments. Jeff (Taylor) and Jonas (Jerebko) played well but played within the team."

Taylor led the way for the Swedes with 25 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals while Jerebko had 22 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kenny Grant added 11 points and Viktor Gaddefors chipped in nine points five rebounds and four steals.

"What can I say? We didn't have a team on the court. We only had the players. They didn't do a good job. We didn't really have a leader who could take over the game and that was the reason for the loss," said Russia coach Vasiliy Karasev.

Russia dropped to 0-3 in the group despite Aleksey Shved scoring 15 points and Semen Antonov hitting for 13 points.

In the early going, Russia had trouble defending Sweden's NBA duo of Taylor and Jerebko, who combined for 11 points as Sweden built a 13-4 lead. Russia closed the gap to 18-15 after one quarter.

The Russians scored the first six points of the second quarter and still led 29-28. But Sweden did a good job defensively, holding Russia scoreless for the final 3:11 of the half and without a basket for the final 4:57.

Grant nailed two triples down the stretch as the Swedes were up 34-29 at the break.

Shved scored the first six points of the second half to push Russia back ahead 35-34. But Russia's offence went cold, hitting just one shot in the next 5:30 minutes as Sweden reeled off a 16-3 run to take a 50-38 advantage. Sweden's lead was 52-45 after three quarters.

Russia closed the deficit to 56-50 but Jerebko and Gaddefors nailed back-to-back triples to start a 25-8 run in the fourth period.
