| 04 September 2012 EUROLEAGUE WOMEN | | Giorgia Sottana will continue playing in the EuroLeague Women in the new season, after securing a move to Famila Schio |
Giorgia Sottana could hardly have had a better year in basketball than 2011-12, winning an Italian league and cup double with Cras Basket Taranto and then leading the Azzurre into next summer's EuroBasket Women. She was the MVP of the Italian Cup. Now the 1.75m point guard has decided to take on a new challenge, and to do so with Taranto's rivals. The 23-year-old has left Taranto for Schio. Sottana has returned to play for Famila Basket in the Veneto region not far from Treviso, where she was born. A club statement said: "Its' an agreement that satisfies the club president Marcello Cestaro and puts on the roster one of the greatest talents of Italian women's basketball, and the player who can share with her new teammates the ambitions whether in the national league or in the next EuroLeague Women that gets underway on 24 October." Sottana led Italy in scoring at 13 points per game, and in assists (3.9) in their EuroBasket Women Qualification Round campaign. Liron Cohen, meanwhile, has moved in the opposite direction. The former Wisla Can-Pack Krakow star who played the past couple of seasons with Schio has joined Taranto. An Israel international, Cohen helped Schio reach the EuroLeague Women Final Eight earlier this year. |
