|Merve Ari contributed 11 points for Turkey|
Sweden became the first team to be eliminated from the U16 European Championship Women as Turkey grabbed a 68-61 win in their Group B encounter.
Turkey began the game with a 6-0 run but the teams were soon locked together as Sweden started to pressure their opponents.
The Swedish team saw Elin Setzman and then Fanny Waldling pick up their third fouls in the second quarter and Turkey threatened to pull away as Irem Kikiler scored five points to finish the half, but Adriana Camber responded to keep the game close at half-time.
The Turkish team were able to extend their advantage as Selale Kepenc scored 11 of her 26 points in the third quarter. Sweden came roaring back though with the first six points of the final period to set up a tense finale.
Kikiler looked to have secured victory as her basket put Turkey 10 points ahead with 2:07 remaining, but Sweden would not lie down and Camber's fast-break basket cut the deficit to four with less than a minute to go.
Fanny Hakansson had a great game for Sweden with 17 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists, but her shot was blocked by Meltem Avci down the stretch to finally ensure Turkey's first victory of the tournament and consign Sweden to the fight to avoid relegation to Division B.
