Portugal signed off their hosting of the U18 European Championship Women in style as they beat Slovenia 61-51 to set a high tide mark and best-ever finish at the tournament by icing ninth spot.

Turning Point: A 13-4 burst at the start of the second half gave Portugal the cushion required to ease to victory.

Game Heroes: Maria Kostourkova showed her class with an eight-of-nine shooting display as she harvested 16 points and completed a nice double-double with 10 rebounds. Carolina Bernadeco wrapped up her roller-coaster tournament with an eye-catching 14 points and four assists.

Stats Don't Lie: Portugal were rampant in the paint and converted an eye-popping 62.1%

The Bottom Line: Portugal can feel proud of their efforts. They finished with a winning 5-4 record, avoided the dreaded relegation and flirted with the quarter-finals. Slovenia matched their best-ever finish and on a similar basis, should feel proud of their accomplishment.
