Laia Palau extended her contract with ZVVZ USK Prague for another season

Spanish national team captain and EuroLeague Women veteran Laia Palau is back on board with ZVVZ USK Prague after being tasked with pulling the strings in the backcourt for a second season with the Czech champions.

Having moved last summer from CCC Polkowice who she had inspired to a historic first appearance at the Final Eight, the guard repeated the feat with her new club with some sensational numbers for Prague as they also recorded a maiden visit to the climax of the EuroLeague Women season.

Palau was the standout playmaker in the competition last year, leading the tournament in assists by some distance with a superb 6.8 per game. She also contributed 6.7 points and continued to show her outstanding knack of claiming key rebounds with an average of 5.3 each time she stepped onto the hardwood.

The one year extension means she becomes the eighth returnee and will resume her fruitful backcourt partnership with Danielle Robinson and Katerina Elhotova.

Interestingly, Palau will go up against no fewer than five of her club team mates at the FIBA World Championship for Women in September, since Spain have been drawn in the same initial group as Czech Republic and both will do battle in Ankara.
