Good for 24 points in Montenegro's dominant victory: Marko Mugosa
Montenegro made easy work of their Day 3 clash with Croatia on Thursday to collect a 79-56 win and join Turkey at the top of Group B at the Sportland U20 European Championship in Tallinn.
Croatia meanwhile have suffered their second defeat in three encounters and face a decisive last group game against Sweden on Saturday.
The Montenegrins worked methodically throughout the first half, protecting the ball and selecting their shots carefully, to gradually build a 44-32 cushion at the half-time interval.
After the two teams returned to the floor though, Montenegro decided to take the high-speed lift and used a 15-4 run to almost double their lead within five minutes, 59-36.
They slowed down somehow in the final quarter but with Croatia trying unsuccessfully to turn the game around from long-range (10-of-39 three-point shooting), Montenegro still managed to extend the gap to 29 points, 76-47, four minutes before the final buzzer.
Montenegro had started pulling away midway through the first quarter, right at the time that Marko Mugosa took over on offence and scored his first 14 points on 100% shooting from the floor.
The forward finished with 24 points and four rebounds while Vukota Pavic added 15 points and three boards and Milos Latkovic chipped in with 10 points for the winners.
Antonio Boban was once again excellent for Croatia and collected 23 points and five rebounds in a losing effort.
