|Angelo Gigli will miss EuroBasket due to injury|
The Italian national team were dealt one more blow to their EuroBasket 2013 hopes on the eve of their departure to Slovenia, as on Sunday Angelo Gigli was ruled out of the tournament with injury.
The unlucky 30-year-old power forward suffered the recurrence of an old injury in his left knee upon Italy's return home from Greece, where they had played their last warm-up games in the Acropolis tournament, and he will not board the plane to Slovenia after spending the best part of the summer in training camp with the rest of the 'Azzurri'.
Gigli's inury is but the latest in a series of setbacks that Italy head coach Simone Pianigiani has had to deal with in the build-up to this September's EuroBasket.
After Danilo Gallinari torn his ACL in a game with the Denver Nuggets in the spring, Daniel Hackett, Achille Polonara, Andrea Bargnani and Stefano Mancinelli all pulled out of the big event either due to injury or ilness.
The 26-year-old big man Daniele Magro has stepped in for Gigli on Italy's final 12-man squad, while Pianigiani has decided to make point guard Daniele Cavaliero his last cut from the roster.
Magro and fellow center Marco Cusin are the two biggest players in this Italian squad, which has a relatively low average height of 1.98m.
The 12 players that arrive in Slovenia on Monday to represent Italy at EuroBasket 2013 are Pietro Aradori, Marco Belinelli, Andrea Cinciarini, Marco Cusin, Luigi Datome, Diener Travis, Alessandro Gentile, Daniele Magro, Nicolò Melli, Giuseppe Poeta, Guido Rosselli, Luca Vitali.
Italy's opening EuroBasket game on Wednesday is against Russia and they will then take on Turkey, Finland, Greece and Sweden in Group D of the First Round.
