|Aleš Križnar, Director of EuroBasket 2013, welcomes Slovenian basketball legend Ivo Daneu as ambassador of EuroBasket 2013|
The 2013 EuroBasket Local Organising Committee was proud to announce Ivo Daneu as their third ambassador for the upcoming event on Friday afternoon.
Daneu is one of the all-time Slovenian basketball legends, becoming the first and only of his countrymen to be named in the FIBA Hall of Fame.
As a member of the Yuogslav national team from 1956 until 1970, the guard made 209 appearances, helping his team to win three EuroBasket silver and one bronze medal; an Olympic silver medal in Mexico; and finally a World Championship gold medal and two silvers.
"I am honoured that the organisers of EuroBasket 2013 have chosen me as the ambassador of the competition and that I can enjoy in company of Rasho Nesterovic and Peter Vilfan who also have the same role," said Daneu in statement released Friday, making reference to the other two Slovenian legends who have already been named as ambassadors.
Daneu then continued by saying, "I am happy that I can contribute to the competition in this manner, [but] even if I wouldn't, I would still be a spectator. I have to remember the 1970 World Championship in Ljubljana where the city and the whole of Yugoslavia breathed as one and I hope it will be the same in 2013."
Also announced on Friday is that Slovenia will play their opening round games in Celje.
