|Free agent Domen Lorbek has been picked up by Gaziantep|
On Wednesday, less than twelve hours after inflicting a second loss on reigning EuroChallenge champions Krasnye Krylia, Royal Hali Gaziantep announced an important new addition to their roster.
The Turkish club has signed an agreement that runs until the end of the current season with Slovenian international Domen Lorbek.
The 28-year-old sharp-shooting guard, who had helped Krka Novo Mesto conquer the Slovenian league title last season, was unattached and arrives at Gaziantep as a free agent.
He averaged 11.3 points and 3.7 assists-per-game for Krka in last season's EuroChallenge campaign.
The middle of the three Lorbek brothers started his career at the youth team of Olimpija Ljubljana and after playing for Triglav Kranj and Helios Domzale he joined the senior team of the Slovenian powerhouse in 2006, when Jure Zdovc, Gaziantep's current head coach, was the club's sport director.
Lorbek then went abroad and alternated clubs in Spain and Italy as he played for Estudiantes, Benetton Treviso, Cajasol Sevilla, Avellino and Lagun Aro San Sebastian before returning to Slovenia to join Krka in 2012.
Gaziantep's three-point shooting percentage is 44% in the EuroChallenge and only 34% in the Turkish BEKO Ligi, and that is an aspect in which the Slovenian international will undoubtedly be of great help.
Lorbek converted a tournament second-best 51.7% of his three-point attempts at EuroBasket 2013 and averaged 7.9 points-per-game, to help Slovenia reach the semi-finals.
He is the first signing under new head coach Jure Zdovc, who took charge of Gaziantep only last week, but the third addition to the team's backcourt since late October.
Veteran point guard Ernest Bremer and swingman Terrico White were added to the roster after the departure of Belarusian international guard Aliaksandr Kudrautsau.
Following Tuesday's victory over Krasnye Krylia - their first game in the EuroChallenge under Zdovc, Gaziantep have jumped to the top of the Regular Season Group B standings with a 3-1 record.
They stand at 2-6 in the BEKO TBL however and play host to Istanbul giants Anadolu Efes on Saturday, in what is expected to be Lorbek's first appearance with his new team.
