Bulgarian international Chavdar Kostov is poised to terrorise opposing defenders in the EuroChallenge next season, but will do so in a UBC Güssing Knights jersey, rather than in a Lukoil Academic Sofia uniform.

The Knights announced on Tuesday that the sharp-shooting guard has completed a transfer from the Bulgarian champions, who were drawn in EuroChallenge regular season Group B, to the Austrian champions, who will compete in Group F.

"I first noticed Chavdar Kostov during my time as an assistant coach on the German national team, as he had some very good performances against us," commented Knights head coach Matthias Zollner.

"I am very pleased that we have now been able to bring a player with his quality and his tremendous international experience to Güssing.

"This shows the appreciation that we have earned outside of Austria, after our great last season.

"With his experience in the Eurocup, as a key player in the top club of Bulgaria and a key player on the Bulgarian national team, he will help us enormously in the coming season."

Kostov, who is currently in training camp with the Bulgarian national team ahead of their EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round campaign, averaged 7.2 points on 38.5% from three-point range, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in his 19 games with Academic in the Bulgarian NBL last season.

"I want to thank the management of the Knights and coach Zollner for their trust," the Bulgarian international commented.

"I'll try my best to work with the team to defend the Austrian ABL title and also to win the domestic cup title.

"Of course, I would also want us to try to advance to the second stage in the EuroChallenge.

"I look forward to arriving in Güssing and I am very happy to play under a coach who believes in me."

One of the teams that the Knights and Kostov will cross swords with in Group F of the EuroChallenge regular season, is U-Banca Transilvania Cluj-Napoca.

The Romanian club also concluded some important moves on Tuesday, in their efforts to bolster their roster ahead of the new season.

Sean Barnette, who averaged 14.5 points, eight rebounds and three assists per game with Bulgarian club Rilski Sportist in last year's EuroChallenge, will return to the competition in the new season, this time in a Cluj-Napoca uniform.

The 28-year-old American winger, who had earned Top Performer honours in the final week of action in the EuroChallege regular season, is actually a familiar face in Cluj-Napoca as he played there prior to moving to Bulgaria.

In his last season with Cluj-Napoca in the Romanian LNB league, Barnette averaged 11.2 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.

The Romanian EuroChallenge club also secured the services of Michael Southall and Zoran Cvjetkovic.

The 32-year-old Southall last played in the Qatar league, with Al Sadd, averaging 6.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.1 blocks per game.

The 2.07m center has however long European experience, as he previously competed in the Spanish LEB Gold (2nd division), in Greece and Switzerland.

The 24-year-old Cvjetkovic meanwhile had a spell in Austria with Oberwart last year and he also played for Zrinski in the domestic league of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
