|Julie Allemand was influential in booking her team a spot at next year's FIBA U19 World Championship for Women |
Belgium locked out Croatia 60-26 at the U18 European Championship Women in Matosinhos as they snapped up the last remaining ticket on offer for the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women ticket next year.
Turning Point: With the game tied up at 11, Belgium made their move by registering a spectacular 16-0 run which ran right across the interval as Croatia went into meltdown and failed to score for more than ten minutes.
Game Heroes: Julie Allemand and Aline Verelst combined for an efficient 25 points in what was a real team effort by Belgium.
Stats Don't Lie: Croatia shot 17.6% from the field and that isn't going to win you many basketball games - if any.
The Bottom Line: While Belgium were unfortunate not to cause an upset in their quarter-final against Spain, this will provide perfect compensation and Arvid Diels and his players will relish an outing on the world stage in 2015. Croatia could still finish seventh and while disappointed, they were always underdogs and making the last eight to survive the drop is a great result for them - whatever happens on Sunday.
