Karsten Schul is taking over as the head coach of Luxembourg's senior men after four years as an assistant

The Luxembourgish Basketball Federation (FLBB) on Tuesday appointed Karsten Schul as their new senior men's head coach.

Schul is set to take over from current coach Frank Baum ahead of EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round.

Baum's final stint in charge of the team will be at the "Games of the Small States 2013", which Luxembourg will host between 27 May and 1 June. The Games of the Small States is open to any European nation with a population of under a million and will provide invaluable preparation for teams ahead of the EuroBasket 2015 1st Qualification Round later in the summer.

Schul comes into the job with a strong basketball pedigree as both a player and coach. The 46-year-old spent his career playing for Leverkusen, Freiburg and Bonn; and has also coached in Hagen and Bonn.

He already has a good understanding of the Luxembourg systems, having served as assistant coach under Baum for the past four years.

Luxembourg have been drawn to play Denmark, Austria and Switzerland in the Qualification Round. Should they win their group and then go on to win the tournament, they will win direct entry to EuroBasket 2015 in Ukraine.
