Italy Beat Defending Champs, Belarus Fight Relegation

Italy bounced back from Friday's defeat to the Czech Republic by beating defending champions Lithuania 57-47.

Despite the loss, Lithuania finished first of Group D and will join Czech Republic and Italy in the Qualifying Round.

Laura Spreafico had 16 of her game-high 21 points in the first half to hand the Azzurre outfit a 34-26 lead.

Lithuania cut the deficit to 36-31 midway through the third quarter but Italy kept their noses in front the rest of the way.

"Finally we played our kind of basketball," said Spreafico, who also pulled down eight rebounds. "We were aggressive on defense and stayed focused throughout the game.
"We deserved this win."

Italy out-rebounded Lithuania 45 to 27.

The Italians were seven of 18 (38.9%) from long range while Lithuania were five of 24 (20.8%).
Egle Siksniute led Lithuania in scoring with 17 points. She was six of seven (85.7%) inside the arc as her team crashed to their first defeat in Sodertalje.

5. Petra Záplatová (Czech Republic)
Petra Záplatová had 11 points in her team's vital win over Belarus

The Czech Republic claimed their second consecutive triumph after edging winless Belarus, 76-64.

Belarus led 36-34 at the break but the Czechs tied the game at 40-40 early in the third quarter before going on a 13-3 run to take a 53-53 lead with two minutes to go in the stanza.

Karalina Padshyvalava's lay-up trimmed the deficit 59-57 with less than five minutes to play, but the Czechs went on a 6-0 surge en route to victory.

Alena Hanusova poured in 22 points and corralled in 20 rebounds for the Czechs.

The Czechs outrebounded Belarus 56-41.

Padshyvalava led Belarus in scoring with 22 points and finished nine of 14 (64.2%) from the floor.

The defeat means Belarus finish last in the group and will play in the Classification Round.
