Italy have won their first classification game for 9th to 16th place to secure their Division A spot for 2013, defeating Bulgaria 67-57.

Italy are the first team to join the hunt for 9th place while Bulgaria will look to avoid a bottom three finish and relegation to Division B in the classification games for 13th to 16th place.

Italy rode a big second quarter run, scoring 11 points over a one-and-a-half minute stretch to blow open a close game.

Bulgaria fought back to come within two points in the third quarter, but sufficient firepower enabled the Italians to run out victors.

A combination of 11 second-chance points and 16 fast-break points proved to be the difference for Italy, helped by four first-half threes to Lorenzo Baldasso.

Baldasso finished with 12 points, but it was Simone Fontecchio who scored a team-high 13 to go with 10 rebounds.

Bulgaria were led by 12 points to Aleksandar Vezenkov and Venelin Hristov.
