Julia Xerri was a strong presence under the boards for Malta on Wednesday

In a re-match of the 2013 gold medal game, Malta got the better of U18 European Championship Women Division C hosts and reigning champions Andorra with stifling defence while Cyprus won their first game of the tournament.

Malta allowed just five points in the first quarter and then gave up just two points in the fourth quarter in beating Andorra 52-39 in Group A.

Iona Agius led the way with 13 points while Maddison Borg collected 12 points and 11 rebounds and Julia Xerri had six points and 14 rebounds.

Malta improved to 2-0 in Group A while Andorra dropped to 0-1. The final game of the group is Gibraltar vs Andorra - a battle of 0-1 teams.

Cyprus grabbed a victory in their first game of the tournament in blasting past the Principality of Monaco 74-30, giving up three points in the second quarter.

Styliani Theodosiou paced Cyprus with 22 points, 11 rebound and four steals while Eleni Oikonomidou had 15 points and nine rebounds.

Monaco dropped to 1-1 while Cyprus will take on 0-1 Wales in the final Group B game.
