|Veronika Mirkovic assured Sweden of their spot in the next round with 12 points and 13 rebounds against Greece|
A stellar double-double from Veronika Mirkovic provided the thrust for Sweden to achieve a hard-fought 49-40 victory against Greece in Group C of the U18 European Championship Women and seal a place in the Second Round.
The forward accrued 12 points and 13 rebounds as Sweden followed up their opening day success against Portugal to remain unbeaten.
Once they moved ahead during the early exchanges, the Swedes kept Greece at arms' length with another strong defensive performance.
Sweden took full control either side of the break when they registered a 10-0 run which put them 34-24 ahead and it was to prove the tipping point.
Greece halved the arrears at 37-32 but just as they were looking like they might regain the initiative, Sweden pulled away once again, making the most of their superior work on the glass at each basket.
A 12-3 burst ended Greek hopes as they contemplated a second loss of the tournament.
Eleanna Christinaki had 10 points and six rebounds for Greece whilst Gabriella Hanson did the dirty work for the winning team with 10 boards, adding to the good work of Mirkovic.
