British international Johannah Leedham was influential in Bourges Basket's win, coming up with 15 points
Tango Bourges ended on Wednesday the unbeaten run of UMMC Ekaterinburg in Group A of EuroLeague Women with a famous 77-69 win at home in an overtime thriller.
The last time that UMMC tasted defeat in Europe dates back to 30th January 2013 when they fell 65-57 to Perfumerias Avenida.
Center Marianna Tolo paved the way for the winners with 22 points and five rebounds, French star Céline Dumerc finished with 16 points and seven assists while Great Britain international Johannah Leedham contributed 15 points, four boards and four assists.
In dire need of a victory after four defeats in six games and facing a team that was arriving in town on a 6-0 winning streak, Bourges started off with great urgency and based their triumph on a collective effort.
The French team's bench players contributed 18 good-as-gold points, while Ekaterinburg only got four points from their second unit.
Bourges kept things tight at the defensive end to lead 18-10 at the end of the first quarter and their belief in an upset increased as Dumerc hit a triple with 46 seconds remaining in the first half to give them their biggest lead of the night, 39-27.
Diana Taurasi, who had scored only five points in a relatively quiet first half, took it upon herself to show why the reigning champions are worthy of their fame as she drilled two back-to-back triples in the beginning of the final frame to tie the scores at 55.
The two sides simply exchanged blows from then on and while Leedham gave the hosts a 64-62 lead going into the final minute of regulation, Taurasi sunk a jumper with nine seconds left on the clock to send the game into overtime.
Bourges had let slip a 12-point advantage and Ekaterinburg had forced an extra five minutes although they had only led twice, momentarily, in the game, yet the hosts proved to be the side with the enormous psychological reserves in overtime.
Candace Parker from the free throw line gave Ekaterinburg a 69-68 lead with 2:22 left in the extra period but Diandra Tchatchouang replied immediately with a jumper and Dumerc with Tolo would score the last six points in the game, to seal the home team's triumphant win.
For Ekaterinburg, Taurasi collected a game-high 23 points and Deanna Nolan had 16 points in defeat.
