The logo and slogan of the U16 European Championship 2013 were unveiled on Thursday in Kyiv - the city that will host this tournament from 8 to 18 August - during a special ceremony.

Ukraine's Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul, together with the President of the Ukrainian Basketball Federation (FBU) Alexander Volkov and EuroBasket 2015 Tournament Director Markiyan Lubkivskyi presented the logo and slogan to the media and invited guests.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Prime Minister Oleksandr Vilkul stated that hosting of iconic sporting events opens Ukraine to Europe and the world.

"This year Ukraine will host the U16 European Championship, which is an important step before the EuroBasket. Such large sports events attract the attention of young people to a healthy lifestyle and sports.

"For the host country, a great sporting event is not only a celebration of sport, it is also a possibility to open itself to the world as it is the part of the brand, part of the positive image of the country. The tournament logo absorbed elements of Ukrainian culture, part of our tradition and soul, part of our hospitality that Ukraine will demonstrate to guests and participants of the tournament. The dynamism of this logo reflects the desire of young athletes to fight selflessly and achieve goals, take on the challenge to become the best."

FBU President Alexander Volkov said that the bright colours of the logo perfectly capture the energy of young athletes from all over Europe who will meet in Ukraine to compete for the top.

"I have dedicated my life to basketball. As a player, I dreamed that one day basketball will become popular in Ukraine and our country will host the world championships. My dream came true! We will do our best to prepare the Ukrainian U16 team in the best way and to give the possibility to Ukrainian fans to be proud, because basketball is a very bright and emotional game."

EuroBasket 2015 Tournament Director Markiyan Lubkivskyy spoke about the history of the creation of the visual image of the tournament:

"We chose the Portuguese agency Brandia Central, because of our successful collaboration with them in 2009 on the development of the logo for UEFA EURO 2012. The agency conducted a unique study of ancient Ukrainian symbols, traditions and art. In particular, the tradition of the Ukrainian art 'pysanka' inspired the designers in the creation process of this logo".

"I am convinced that the logo and slogan will become a symbol of the beginning of a successful and long-lasting history of modern basketball in Ukraine. We will make every effort to organise a great basketball festival in August this year and assure the successful organisation of EuroBasket 2015 ", said M. Lubkivskyy.

According to the logo co-designer, Portuguese Miguel Viana, Ukraine is a country with rich traditions and a unique cultural heritage that inspired the authors in the creation of this image and slogan.

"Ukraine is an ambitious and dynamic nation that proudly looks into the future and is ready to host another major sporting event and to show to the world their diligence and persistence in achieving goals".

FIBA Europe Properties Managing Director Yannick Souvre, in a letter sent to Tournament Director Markiyan Lubkivskyi, noted the successful co-operation with the Local Organising Committee during preparations of the U16 European Championship and EuroBasket 2015.

"The work that has been done so far in preparation for the U16 European Championship is truly amazing and astonishing. With a great logo, great promotional campaign and great people, the bar of quality for future countries wishing to host a Youth European Championship has been raised considerably", said Souvre.
