| Sarah Beránková had 16 points and eight rebounds ina must-win game for the Czech Republic|
The Czech Republic gave their chances of making the last eight of the U18 European Championship Women a big boost after they claimed their first win of the second round by sinking home favourites Croatia 72-47 in Group E.
The victory was built on a blistering last quarter display when the Czechs jumped into the fast-lane after finding another gear altogether to leave the host nation floundering.
Whilst there was little to choose between both teams in the opening 15 minutes, Czech Republic were in the ascendency for most of the encounter and really cemented their success with a rampant late blast.
They initially took control ahead either side of half-time with a 17-4 burst and when minutes later Eva Mouckova converted from long range to make it 44-28, it looked all over.
However, Croatia were not going to lie down and showed their spirit by coming up with a 13-2 run, but they could not sustain it long enough to secure a swing of the pendulum in their favour.
The Czechs pulled away again and iced matters with the last 12 points of the game as they took thei second win of the tournament.
Sarah Berankova and Kamila Hoskova both produced the goods, with the former adding 16 points and eight rebounds and the latter registering 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Inja Butina had 11 points and four steals in defeat.
