|Jantel Lavender got the job done down the stretch for Wisla Can-Pack, making the game-winning basket|
Jantel Lavender hit the game-winning shot and harvested a double-double to carry Wisla-Can Pack to a nerve-jangling 74-72 EuroLeague Women success at Lattes Montpellier in Group B.
The center corralled 16 points and 13 rebounds, as well as scoring what turned out to be the last score of the contest inside the final minute, as the triumphant Polish side breathed a sigh of relief having almost thrown the game away.
Down 32-23 in the second quarter, the visitors were on the ropes, but managed to turn their fortunes around with a powerful ten minute spell spanning both sides of the break, which eventually got them into the lead at 51-50.
With less than five minutes left on the game clock, Wisla had extended their advantage to nine points, but watched in dismay as it evaporated down the stretch.
BLMA managed to muster an 11-2 run, with Geraldine Robert levelling the scores from the free-throw line.
But, just when it looked like the pendulum had swung the way of the home team, there was a twist in the tale.
Lavender sunk the winning basket as BLMA missed a couple of opportunities in the closing seconds to force overtime.
BLMA slumped to a fourth consecutive defeat, despite five players reaching double-figures, including 16 points from Shameka Christon.
Cristina Ouvina supported the headline contribution of Lavender by adding 13 points and eight assists for Wisla.
