The Ambassadors of EuroBasket 2013 were presented the medals for EuroBasket made by Zlatarna Celje, before the last preparation game of the Slovenian national team.
The shape of the medal, with its purity of the lines and surfaces concentrates on the essentials and the ergonomic tension gives it a pleasant feeling at the touch.
The medal gives an impression from two parts, which form the whole and is a symbol of success.
With its weight of 210 grams it gives the highest acknowledgment for hard work and effort
The agitated line, which divides the differently cultivated surfaces of the medal, illustrates the stylised Triglav, which is the most recognisable symbol of Slovenia.
On the lower part of the medal there is a relief illustration of a typical structure of basketball - you can sense it best when touching it. The surface is tarnished and emphasises the structure of the ball, while visually the logo of the event appears;
On the rear of the medal there are engraved all the host towns of EuroBasket 2013 - Celje, Jesenice, Koper, Ljubljana, as well as the logo of EuroBasket 2013
The diameter of the medal is 88 millimetres.
"The medals are among the elements of the championship, which have a special value, because only the best basketball players of Europe can receive them," said Alenka Škreblin, Secretary General of EuroBasket 2013.
"Zlatarna Celje is proud that EuroBasket 2013 LOC trusted us the task of designing the medals for such a big sporting event...it was a huge challenge from both a technological and the designer's point of view," said the designer of the medals, Desiree Kolarec.
One of the ambassadors to be presented with the medals was Ivo Daneu.
"Medals are definitely things that have an amazing value. I keep my medals in a safe, so I can hardly remember how all of them look. But I remember how beautiful our medal from the 1970 World Championship was and the winning basket was even more beautiful."
