|Serife Onar had 15 points in a vital game for Turkey|
Turkey made it safely into the second round of the U18 European Championship Women in Vinkovci after posting a strong second-half performance to shoot down Belarus 79-55 and bounce back from their Dutch mauling.
Perhaps still suffering from the effects of their previous outing which had seen them trashed 68-41 by Netherlands, Turkey initially struggled to impose themselves against a Belarus side still searching for a first victory.
But, with the game locked 31 at the interval, Turkey took over during the second half thanks mainly to a trio of excellent displays.
Center Basak Altunbay contributed a double-double 14 points and ten rebounds, Serife Onar added 15 points and four assists, whilst Melis Gulcan had an all-action 17 points, six rebounds and four assists.
It was in the third quarter that Turkey put their foot to the metal, accelerating through the gears offensively and outscoring Belarus 27-15 to jump into the box-seat.
With Belarus having another off-night shooting-wise, they never looked likely to drag themselves back into the contest and so it proved as they settled for fighting it out in the Classification Round.
