The Slovenian delegation stopped by in Madrid to promote EuroBasket 2013

A Slovenian delegation travelled to Madrid, Spain this week where they presented EuroBasket 2013 at a press conference that was organised in cooperation with the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB).

The Slovenian delegation was represented by EuroBasket 2013 director Ales Kriznar; EuroBasket 2013 ambassador Radoslav Nesterovic; communications manager Anze Blazic; and official mascot Lipko.

Aljaz Gosnar, Head of the Slovenian Embassy in Spain, and Petra Stusek, communications manager at Tourism Ljubljana, joined the group, introducing Slovenia to the public and stressing the meaning of EuroBasket 2013 for the country.

The event was attended by FEB Vice President Juan Manuel Caño Martín, Spanish basketball legends such as 1984 Olympic silver medalist Fernando Romay, and 95 media representatives.

Former Spanish international and FEB representative Jose Montero welcomed the Slovenian guests and opened the press conference.

Having played at two EuroBasket Final Rounds in the late 1980's, and having served as director at EuroBasket 2007 in Spain, Montero knows what it takes to organise a successful event: "We will not wish you luck because you do not need it. You are a basketball nation and we know that EuroBasket 2013 will be an excellent event from a sporting, social, touristic and economic point of view."

"I hope a lot of Spaniards will support our basketball team at the event and they will help us achieve our goal, which is to claim the third consecutive EuroBasket title," he added.

Spain will contest their First Round games in Celje, with Ljubljana, Koper and Jesenice hosting the remaining three groups.

Special offers are being prepared for supporters and media representatives, and according to EuroBasket 2013 director Kriznar, the public will soon be informed about the start of the ticket sales.

EuroBasket 2013 ambassador Nesterovic echoed the previous speakers and promised that all teams and fans find perfect working conditions in all venues.

"I remember EuroBasket 2007 in Spain well. The event was organised excellently, which represents a huge challenge for every following organiser of such event.

"We can promise that we will do our best to take good care of all the teams, media representatives, referees, fans and that all of them will be thrilled by the beauty of Slovenia.

"We will provide excellent working conditions and lots of accompanying activities. Those who have visited Slovenia before know what to expect."
