Russia fought off Sweden 50-40 to claim the last quarter-final spot from Group F on Wednesday at the U20 European Championship Women.
In the last eight, the Russians will face two-time defending champions Spain.
In the second quarter, Russia held their opponents scoreless for more than eight minutes, and with 11 points from Ksenia Tikhonenko, pulled away to a 23-14 halftime lead.
In the second half, Russia kept going inside to extend the advantage to 30-16, but Sweden came back thanks to consecutive triples from Ulrica Holmqvist, Matilda Claesson and Helena Kurt, cutting it to 35-36.
However, Russia, led by Tikhonenko stayed ahead until the final buzzer.
Russia successfully used a recipe of going inside, shooting 20-for-47 on two-pointers while attempting only seven triples. They also overcame 19 turnovers and Sweden's 20 offensive boards.
Tikhonenko amassed 19 points and 13 rebounds in victory, while Daria Namok scored eight.
Josefin Vesterberg had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Sweden which is now facing battle for survival in Division A.
