Krasnoyarsk Tumble Out Of Quarter-Final Contention

09 March 2010

Banvit BC might have already had their own hopes of a spot in the last eight extinguished before their match-up with Enisey Krasnoyarsk, but that didn't stop them shooting down their Russian opponents by claiming a 94-85 win.

The visitors were hoping for a victory on Turkish soil and then Antwerp losing at Roanne but they were spared the agony of waiting for the other result in Group L after blowing their opportunity.

When Alexey Savkov scored with just over four minutes remaining in the game, it put Enisey 78-77 in front but they then imploded as their Turkish hosts took control in crunch time.

Banvit exploded with a pivotal 10-0 run to break the game open with Keith Simmons instrumental as he claimed 5 points including a dunk to underline the momentum swinging the way of the home team.

It had looked all so different during the early stages with Enisey building on a bright opening to lead 20-13 and a lead they still held at the midway point of the game at 43-42.

However it wasn't to be as they came up short down the stretch.

Guard Baris Ermis was stone cold for Banvit from outside but made up for it in other ways with a creditable 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Kaspars Kambala claimed 17 points and 8 rebounds for the visitors.
