Croatia have named Bosnia and Herzegovina target Goran Suton in their preliminary squad for the EuroBasket. Quarter-Finalists at last year's Olympics in China, Croatia will travel to Poland for the Final Round looking for a podium finish and the sweet-shooting big man Suton, a standout player at Michigan State who was just selected in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Utah Jazz, is in their plans. Suton has ties to both Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, although he apparently represented the latter as a junior player. Bosnian and Herzegovina coach Mensur Bajramovic said in April that he had attempted to have Suton in his line-up during last year's qualifying campaign and that Suton "replied that, due to his student obligations, he couldn't answer my call but he also confirmed that there wouldn't be any problems in 2009." Bajramovic's team is in the Additional Qualifying Round for the EuroBasket. Olympiacos center Nikola Vujičić has not played for his country since EuroBasket 2005 but looks set for a return. Croatia coach Jasmin Repesa has also included Efes Pilsen center Mario Kasun in his squad. All 12 of the Croatia players that represented the country at last summer's Olympics are in the 24-man preliminary squad. Croatia's preliminary squad for EuroBasket: Zoran Planinić, Marko Popović, Roko-Leni Ukić, Davor Kus, Marin Rozić, Marko Tomas, Damjan Rudež, Nikola Prkačin, Krešimir Lončar, Marko Banić, Sandro Nicević, Nikola Vujičić, Mario Kasun, Ante Tomić, Drago Pašalić, Krunoslav Simon, Jakov Vladović, Rok Stipčević, Mario Stojić, Goran Suton, Damir Markota, Tomislav Zubčić, Mario Delaš, Damir Rančić. |
