A number of famous Ukrainian basketball players will give a masterclass for children with disabilities and orphans before opening the U16 European Championship.
On August 8 at 20:15 at the Kyiv Sports Palace children in need will come out on the basketball court prior to the official opening of the U16 European basketball Championship. Among them will be children with disabilities, street kids, children affected by HIV and violence.
UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the EuroBasket 2015 Local Organising Committee therefore intend to raise awareness of the importance of protecting children's rights, especially among the most vulnerable ones and the importance of sport and basketball in the rehabilitation of these children.
Before the opening match of the home team, against Latvia these children will go out on the court where they will be given a masterclass in basketball by Grygorii Khizhniak (4-time Ukrainian champion, Lithuanian champion, ULEB Cup finalist), Dmytro Bazelevskyy (Ukrainian player of the year 1997) as well as EuroBasket Women champions Olena Vergun and Lyudmyla Nazarenko. The children will be also greeted by the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Vilkul, Tournament Director Markian Lubkivskyi and the UNICEF Ukraine Representative Yukie Mokuo.
Media representatives are invited to take part in the event which will take place on 8 August at 20:15 at the Kyiv Palace of Sports (Sportyvna ploscha, 1) on basketball court #1.
