| 30 July 2010 GROUP A Kaja Stankovic hit the tying jumper in the very last seconds of the fourth quarter to force overtime and Snezana Colic finished the job with a key three pointer in the extra period to give Serbia victory over Hungary 64-54. Dijana Stancic contributed 20 points and Colic added 17 for the winners.
Serbia had a slightly better start in the first quarter behind six points by Colic, but Hungary's Flóra Szabó drove inside and hit the jumper that reduced the margin to one point 10-11 just before the buzzer.
Hungary couldn't pick up their offensive rhythm until the end of the second quarter when they concentrated on the defense and Bettina Berta converted a steal into points to give her team a 21-20 advantage with 0:21 left in the first half.
Brigita Barta hit a few jumpers, added a pair of free throws and was the only scoring player for Hungary in the third quarter until Lilla Adamecz joined her with five minutes left, but Serbia responded with an 8-1 run behind two three pointers by Stancic and a jumper by Jovana Dordevic which left Hungary trailing 34-30 before the final quarter.
Adamecz took over the offensive tasks from Barta and made two free throws before nailing a tough three-pointer, but Stankovic tied the score with a jumper at 46-46 and sent both teams to extra time.
Colic fired the bomb to push her team ahead 56-51 and that appeared to be a pivotal moment that helped Serbia secure the 63-54 win over Hungary. |
