| Ilenia Cordola produced her biggest performance for Italy in their last game of the tournament|
Illenia Cordola saved her best until last as she propelled Italy to an exciting 53-51 success against Croatia to secure seventh spot at the U18 European Championship Women in Matosinhos.
Turning Point: Italy trailed by six points with less than three minutes remaining, but Marzia Tagliamento managed to convert successive three-pointers to bring her team on level terms.
Game Heroes: Cordola garnered 15 points from an excellent seven-of-eight shooting effort and also pulled down six rebounds.
Stats Don't Lie: Italy took good care of the ball and had seven less turnovers than Croatia.
The Bottom Line: Italy finished with a victory to avoid losing their last three games, but will still feel crushed at not making the semi-finals or the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women in particular which would have been a hefty consolation. But, their bright start was ultimately overshadowed by misfortune when they lost players to ankle injuries. Croatia can rejoice in their sixth place finish which is the best in their history.
