Stopping in Riga for the first time, the next event on the FIBA Europe 3on3 tour promises to be a highlight on the calendar.

This weekend, it is all about premieres.

It is not only the first official Latvian 3on3 Championship, but also the first ever sports event held directly at the Freedom Monument.

Unveiled in 1935, the 42-metre high monument in the city centre is considered a symbol of freedom, being a perfect setting for the night competition on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.

Six FIBA Europe 3on3 courts will provide the stage for approximately 120 teams, competing in five categories.

Besides U16 Boys and U18 Boys, there are three senior categories: Pro, Women and Companies.

The winners of all categories will be crowned Latvian Champions, with the runners-up and the third-place teams also being awarded with prizes.

The competition will be framed by a dunk and three-point contest as well as various show acts, including the dance teams of Lithuanian club Lietuvas Rytas.

Featuring some of Latvia's best-known names in basketball, the three-point contest will be a special treat for all local fans.

Former internationals Robert Stelmahers and Sandis Valters will go up against a duo of the current Latvian national team, Janis Blums and Ainars Bagatskis.

Having participated in four EuroBasket Final Rounds, Blums has proven more than once to be a sharpshooter.

Latvia head coach Bagatskis, a former legendary player and deadly three-point shooter, will be eager to show that he can still light it up behind the arc.

Bagatskis and Stelmahers have been team-mates on the national team from 1995 to 2003, while Valters and Blums have teamed up for Latvia at EuroBasket 2005 and 2007
