Lithuania Ahead In Group D, Czechs Get First Win

Defending champions Lithuania beat Belarus 70-59 for their second win in as many days at the U18 European Championship for Women.

Leading 36-31 at the break, Lithuania built a 17-point cushion (57-40) over the next eight minutes en route to victory.

Monika Grigalauskyte led Lithuania in scoring with 12 points while teammate Egle Siksniute contributed with 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.

Maryia Rashchenia had a game-high 16 points in defeat.

Earlier in the day, the Czech Republic shut down Italy in the fourth quarter and pulled away for a decisive 67-47 win.

Leading 48-43 inside the final minute of the third frame, the Czechs allowed the Azzurrine to score just four points the rest of the way.

Lenka Bartáková had 15 points for the Czechs but more importantly came up with seven of their 17 steals.

By the end of the contest, Italy had 33 turnovers.

Italy's Laura Spreafico poured in a game-high 19 points. She was four of six from three-point range in defeat.
