|Isabella Slim and the Netherlands made a clear statement of their intentions on Friday with a commanding victory over Turkey|
The Netherlands showed why they are a favourite to challenge for a medal at the U18 European Championship Women after storming to a scintillating 68-41 success against Turkey.
In a major and early statement of intent, the Netherlands were superior in every facet of the game and completely dominant from the first second.
They left Turkey trailing in their wake after jumping out to a 15-2 start as Laura Cornelius gleefully converted from downtown.
With fantastic ball movement and impenetrable defence, they extended their advantage to 31-9 as Turkey searched desperately for some kind of lifeline.
They got one shortly before the interval by scoring nine of the last 11 points of the half to cut the gap heading to the locker rooms, but it was to prove a false dawn.
Netherlands regrouped and came back with the same kind of impressive focus they had in the first 15 minutes of the game and put Turkey to the sword again.
They choked the life out of the Turkish offence and once it became 50-23, it was very much game over a long way out from the final buzzer.
Klaziena Gujit produced 17 points for Netherlands after nailing five triples to help send Netherlands in the second round.
