|Maria Vadeeva and Russia delivered another impressive performance to stay undefeated |
Russia's impressive start to the U16 European Championship Women continued with a 90-39 victory over Group B rivals Latvia.
Latvia recorded an impressive victory in their first game against Sweden, but the Russian team always threatened to be a stronger opponent and they stamped their authority on the game as they held Latvia to just six points total in the second and third quarter.
The start did not hint at the dominance that was to come, as the teams were tied at 13 before Russia ended the first quarter with a 10-2 run.
This seemed to inspire confidence in the Russian team as they solved the Latvian offense, going 48-6 over the next two periods in another strong display following their opening-day victory.
Raisa Musina had 19 points in the first half on her way to a game-high 21 while Maria Vadeeva again impressed (14 points, seven rebounds) and Tatiana Kazakova added 12 points and nine rebounds.
Digna Strautmane top-scored with 12 points and added 9 rebounds for Latvia, who will hope to bounce back on Saturday against Turkey.
