In co-operation with EuroBasket 2013 and the Philatelic Union of Slovenia, Slovenian Post has released a commemorative stamp to mark this summer's impending EuroBasket tournament.

The stamp was unveiled at a ceremony in Ljubljana on Wednesday with Ivo Daneu given the first stamp, which he used on a letter to send to former Yugoslavian national team coach Ranko Zeravica, inviting him to attend EuroBasket in September.

The stamp will be placed in general distribution, beginning on 24 May, at a cost of 1.33 euros.

At the unveiling Slovenian Post CEO, Boris Novak, spoke enthusiastically of the comparisons that can be drawn between collecting stamps and playing sport.

He also spoke positively of how the EuroBasket stamp will promote Slovenia: "I'm glad that there is a lot of interest for the stamps which are dedicated to sports and that the EuroBasket post stamp will also promote Slovenia to the world."

"It is an honour to be chosen as the recipient of the first post stamp and that I have an opportunity to invite my good friend Ranko Zeravica to EuroBasket 2013," commented Daneu. "I am convinced that he will respond positively and be our guest of honour."
