Julie Page will go into the London Games with a lot of attention after being named on Wednesday as British Basketball's Athlete of the Year.

Page, who played at the EuroBasket Women for the first time this summer and helped the Brits advance from Round 1, was nominated for the honour along with men's team stars Luol Deng, Joel Freeland and fellow women's team player Chantelle Handy.

As the British Basketball Player of the Year, Page will receive the Olympic Athlete of the Year Award for basketball.

Eighteen-year-old Devon Van Oostrum, who played for Great Britain at the U20 European Championship Division B and then made the senior squad for EuroBasket 2011 in Lithuania, has been named Emerging Athlete 2011.

Page, a 28-year-old power forward, averaged 10 points and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game for the Brits at the EuroBasket Women.

She had 11 points and nine rebounds in a win over Israel and in the following clash with Lithuania, a 64-63 British defeat, she had 19 points and seven boards.

Against eventual silver-medal winners Turkey, Page had 13 rebounds to go with her 12 points and then in a 62-59 setback to Russia, the 28-year-old had seven points, eight rebounds and three steals.

She is currently playing in Poland with Energa Torun.

Page said: "I am honoured and immensely proud to have been named the British Basketball Player of the Year 2011. Just to be considered alongside so many talented and accomplished players is extremely humbling, but to actually win the award is a tremendous privilege."

Players honored before include Luol Deng (2007 and 2008), Jo Leedham (2009) and Pops Mensah-Bonsu (2010).
