A Mid-Season Clinic for referees, commissioners and coaches, organized by the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the support of the FIBA Europe Referee Department, was held in Siroki Brijeg.

The clinic was organized during the Final Four of Bosnia and Herzegovina's cup competition from 17 to 18 February 2012.

The main goal of the clinic was to review the officials' work in the Championship up to this moment and to prepare for the second stage of the season, as stated by Medin Duskaj, President of the Referee Department of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

FIBA Europe Referee Instructor Davorin Nakic was invited to participate in the clinic and to assist the local officials in order to improve the officiating in the Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

"The response to the clinic was great," said Nakic. "All participants showed great interest in learning and progressing."

Around 60 referees from Bosnia and Herzegovina's first division were present at the clinic, taking part in lectures and discussions.

DVD material was prepared to show and analyze the decision making in crucial moments.

Healthy debates during and after the lectures on topics like unsportsmanlike fouls and screening situations sparked the clinic.

"We were basically working on and discussing points of modern officiating such as contact criteria, three-person mechanics and the characteristics of a top referee," Nakic explained.

"I am especially pleased with the high number of young referees, who were highly motivated and interested.

"There is a new wave of young people caring about refereeing and the game of basketball in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and I am confident that it will pay off in the future," he concluded.

The clinic proved to be a very successful event to build on.

"The aim of the Referee Department of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina is to continue this way using all necessary sources as well as help provided by the FIBA Europe Referee Department in order to improve basketball in Bosnia and Herzegovina," Harun Mahmutovic, General Secretary of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated in his report.
