Improved Lithuania Better Poland

Lithuania improved their three point and field shooting in the second half and escaped with a 62-55 victory over Poland in the first day of U18 European Championship Women 2010 tournament in Spissa Nova ves, Slovakia.

The Baltic side outrebounded their opponents i 62 to 31 and that compensated their poor shooting.
 
Santa Okockyte collected 25 points for Lithuania while Paulina Zaveckaite and Laura Svaryte combined for 24 rebounds.

Magdalena Zietara led Poland with 18 points and was very active in the final quarter, but her efforts were simply not enough.

Lithuania trailed Poland  27-31 after two quarters, because of their poor percentage from the field, which was as low as 38.4% and their even worse percentage from behind the arc where they were none of 7 attempts.

Kinga Bandyk was active under the Lithuania basket. She collected 12 points in the first half making all six attempts from the line, but was left scoreless in the second half.

Lithuania tied the score at 33-33 and reached a double digit lead with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, but long distance bombs by Monika Jasnowska and Zietara helped Poland reduce the gap to 43-39 before the last quarter.

Zietara's efforts allowed the Polish to tie the score at 51-51 in the middle of the fourth quarter, but the Lithuanian team work made sure of victory.
