|Pauline Akonga had a successful return from maternity leave for Arras|
Municipal Targoviste had to endure a stomach-churning 67-66 loss at Arras as they came within a whisker of making it to the play-offs but now EuroLeague Women Group B will go to the wire for the Romanian club.
Having looked dead and buried against a resurgent Arras side when they fell 46-30 behind after a triple by Johanne Gomis, Targoviste breathed life into their prospects of progressing with a stunning revival.
They outscored their hosts 30-12 in an astonishing second half turnaround to take the lead 55-52 during the early stages of the final quarter, setting up an absorbing last seven minutes.
Back from maternity leave, Pauline Akonga made an immediate impact upon return for Arras, making it 59-59 with four minutes left on the game clock.
When Targoviste then opened up a handy six-point lead at 65-59 with just two minutes remaining, it looked like they would go on to cement fifth spot in the group, but there was a late and nasty sting in Arras' tail.
The home side went on to score eight of the last nine points and to make it a really bitter pill to swallow for a crestfallen Targoviste, it was a dagger three-pointer by Gomis which won the game for Arras as Maja Miljkovic subsequently failed in a last ditch shot attempt to steal the victory.
It was a glorious return to action for Akonga with a credible 12 points and 10 rebounds whilst Jillian Robbins had 13 boards for Targoviste.
