|Rickey Paulding and EWE Baskets once more were impressive, winning on the road without three rotation players|
Kormend's hopes of reaching the Last 16 of the EuroChallenge were brutally ended as they ran into the EWE Baskets buzzsaw in their final Group F clash, losing 90-67.
After beating Szolnoki Olaj last time out, Kormend put themselves in charge of their own destiny but the unbeaten EWE Baskets had other ideas.
Kormend's crushing defeat, coupled with a 77-71 victory for Szolnoki over BC Timisoara, sees Szolnoki follow Oldenburg into the Last 16.
EWE Baskets had wasted little time in killing off Kormend hopes, with a 22-4 run in the first quarter helping them take a 27-9 lead, and Kormend never showed any signs of recovering from.
Rickey Paulding then hit a three-point to start the second period and Jannik Freese added a lay-up that made it 32-9.
Kormend could not get anything going and the merciless Oldenburg made them pay as Julius Jenkins' three-pointer put them 46-18 up before half-time.
Kormend would stem the bleeding in the second half, but the result they needed was already beyond them.
Paulding led Oldenburg with 22 points while Freese added 21. Adam Chubb collected 15 points with eight rebounds, and Kevin Smit scored 10.
EWE Baskets had to do without the injured trio of Ronnie Burrell, Konrad Wysocki and Robin Smeulders, making the big win an even more impressive statement.
Zvonko Buljan led Kormend with 25 points while Matthew Shaw added 18 with eight rebounds. Csaba Ferencz scored 10 points.
