Kristaps Porzingis rose above Spain to keep Latvia perfect
Latvia claimed a back and forth encounter with Spain in Liepaja on Friday 66-61, marking their second straight Group C win at the U18 European Championship.
The host nation benefitted from a 2,000-strong crowd, keeping Spain at bay and closing out a 66-61 win after Agusti Sans tied the contest at 61 with under two minutes remaining.
Latvia's big-man combination of Anzejs Pasecniks and Kristaps Porzingis once again enjoyed dominant performances.
The high number of missed shots meant there were plenty of rebounds to be had and Pasecniks seemed determined to grab them all, collecting eight in the first quarter alone and 13 for the game to go along with 18 points while Pasecniks scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Latvia's size advantage meant the team was able to dominate the rebound count 53-39 and block eight shots to Spain's one.
Point guard Alberto Martin led Spain with 16 points.
