|Anete Steinberga was a reliable offensive option for Latvia|
Unbeaten Latvia preserved their perfect status in the EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualification Round after outlasting Portugal 62-55 in Group C.
The visitors did however have to weather some stormy waters to get their fourth consecutive victory after Portugal enjoyed being on top of matters shortly after the interval.
With continual lead changes having been prevalent during the first phase of the game, Portugal then put together a 10-4 run which witnessed Ana Oliveira sink a three-ball to make it 36-29 early in the penultimate period.
Needing to respond to keep their flawless record firmly intact, Latvia came alive with nine unanswered points to move into the lead and they remained there at 44-43 heading into the last quarter.
With newly found momentum, Latvia took a significant stride towards victory after another triple from Oliveira had briefly restored a Portuguese advantage.
Latvia outscored their opponents 12-2 and it proved the decisive passage of the contest as the home favourites struggled to recover from going eight points behind.
Portugal did make life uncomfortable for Latvia in the closing minutes by getting back to within five minutes, but Latvia held firm.
Anete Steinberga fired an efficient 10 points for the Latvians, while Aija Putnina did the dirty work on the glass with 13 boards as well as handing out four assists.
Maria Correia claimed 14 points for Portugal who remain with one win to their name.
