Nadezhda Orenburg drew first blood in their EuroLeague Women play-off series with Wisla Can-Pack, but had to endure a nerve-wracking late scare to eventually secure a 52-48 success.

The Russian side held a commanding 16-point lead heading into the final quarter and were seemingly coasting to victory, only for the wheels to almost come crashing off in spectacular fashion.

Arriving hot on the heels of their Polish Cup success, it was the the visitors who struggled to find any kind of offensive rhythm for the entire first three quarters of the contest.

Although Nadezhda themselves weren't exactly engaged in their highest gear offensively, they took full advantage of their defensive stranglehold, with eight unanswered points either side of the first and second quarter break helping build a 30-18 lead by the interval..

Much to the delight of home fans, Greek forward Zoi Dimitrakou sunk successive scores from downtown to finish the third quarter with a flourish and at 47-31, Wisla looked dead and buried.

But, Stefan Svitek and his players turned the tables on their opponents and suddenly it was Nadezhda who couldn't buy a bucket, as Wisla scored the first eighth points of the fourth period to cut the gap in half.

Marina Kuzina looked to have finally snapped the barren spell of the home team when she drained a big triple, but they only managed one more score in the entire final quarter.

Unfortunately for the rejuvenated Wisla, time ran out and they couldn't complete a potentially great escape.

Dimitrakou fired a team-high 13 points for Nadezhda and Jantel Lavender impressed with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds for Wisla.
