|Sofia Pinheiro ended with 16 points for Portugal|
If there is one thing Portugal have learned to do during their first top-tier campaign at the U18 European Championship, it has been to win close games and they grabbed another one with a 70-67 success against the Czech Republic.
In a contest with numerous lead changes, neither team was able to make a decisive break, although Portugal always just had their noses in front during the second half.
When Kamila Hoskova brought the Czech Republic to within two points at 69-67 with just less than three minutes left to play, it looked like the momentum may have started swinging in the direction of the Czechs.
However, it was to be their final score of the game as they endured a barren spell during crunch time.
However, they were kept in the game by the inability of Portugal to score either and indeed Michaela Kanukova had the chance to put the Czech Republic ahead with five seconds left, but could not get her triple attempt to drop.
Portugal then made the game safe with a free-throw from Simone Costa as time expired for the Czechs.
Sofia Pinheiro had an excellent shooting night with 16 points for Portugal and Maria Kostourkova had 11 points and 12 rebounds as they booked a date with Greece to contest ninth place.
Hoskova top-scored in the game for Czech Republic with 21 points and also came up with an impressive eight rebounds and four steals.
