|Marek Zywert was on fire for Poland once more, hurting Lithuania with his 23 points|
Domantis Sabonis' record equalling 27 rebounds at a Youth European Championship has not been enough to help his team avoid defeat, with Poland taking down the Lithuanians 77-69 at the Dadu U16 European Championship.
Poland and Lithuania traded the lead 16 times and found themselves tied on a further five occasions but when it counted it was Poland on top as Lithuania were guilty for looking outside the perimeter too often, missing all seven of their three-point attempts in the final frame.
Stepping out of his brother's shadow in the last quarter, Polish captain Kamil Zywert showed a cool head when it counted, picking up six late points to help Poland maintain a comfortable buffer.
Prior to the final quarter, it had been Kamil's twin brother Marek providing most of the fire for Poland, scoring 19 points in the first three quarters before ending with 23. Kamil and Filip Pruefer both added 10 points whilst Artur Wlodarczyk was once again productive off the bench with 11.
With 27 rebounds and 15 points off the bench, Sabonis was the obvious talking point for Lithuania but the main scoring power came from Antanas Krimelis with 24.
Lithuania must now win their final second round game against Greece to have any chance of making the quarter-finals. Poland can guarantee their quarter-final spot with a win over Serbia.
