|Martynas Echodas' double-dounle of 16 points and 11 rebounds came in handy for Lithuania as they confirmed Division A status for next year|
Lithuania ended their relegation worries at the U16 European Championship Men but left neighbours Latvia sweating after pulling away in the second half for a crucial win.
Lithuania outscored Latvia 18-5 in the third quarter to take control of an otherwise tight contest, and their victory means they can finish no worse than 12th place here.
Latvia, however, now drop into a four-way scrap for one Division A berth after letting the game get away from them.
The teams traded the lead 16 times in a first half during which they were never separated by more than five points, with Latvia holding a 45-44 edge at half-time.
They were up 49-47 early in the third quarter but Lithuania then reeled off 11 unanswered points, holding Latvia scoreless for more than five minutes, to lead 58-49 when Jokubas Svambaris split a pair of free throws with 2:52 left in the period.
Laurynas Birutis ended the quarter with a dunk that stretched the lead to 12, a three from Martynas Varnas with 6:02 left in the game made it 70-58.
The lead maxed out at 80-67 on Tadas Sedekerskis' three with 2:32 left and although Latvia cut the deficit late on, the game was already beyond their reach.
Sedekerskis led Lithuania with 22 points and seven rebounds while Martynas Echodas scored 16 with 11 boards. Svambaris contributed 11 points and Varnas 10 with seven points and five assists.
Verners Kohs led Latvia with 19 points while Karlis Garoza had 12 with 11 rebounds.
