Martynas Varnas poured in 19 points to lead Lithuania to an 80-64 victory over Sweden in their Group C opener at the U16 European Championship Men.
Matas Andruskevicius and Tadas Sedekerskis each added 16 for Lithuania, who pulled clear in the second half after a hard-fought opening 20 minutes.
Lithuania's lead was 31-29 at half-time but they set the tone for a much stronger showing after the break when Anduskevicius hit a three-pointer to open the third quarter, and when Varnas made a jump-shot five minutes later, the lead was 46-36.
The lead was still 10 going into the final stanza as Sweden battled hard, but Lithuania were too strong and they scored 12 points in the opening two and a half minutes of the final period to extend the advantage to 68-53.
Sweden got late three-pointers from Jacob Bodin and Samuel Berkelund but could do no more than prevent Lithuania's growing lead from getting out of hand.
Craig Lecesne led Sweden with 18 points while Bodin, John Brandmark and Nils Johansson had 10 each.
