FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos was on hand in Kaunas Sunday for the finals of the Omnitel U16 European Championship Men, offering him an opportunity to see the progress being made ahead of EuroBasket 2011, which will take place in Lithuania.
"From the very beginning I would like to make it clear that I am very impressed with the level of organization and
the level of the arena," said Vassilakopoulos.

He was joined at a press conference prior to the championship game by the Secretary General of the State Department of Sport Algirdas Raslanas, the Mayor of Kaunas City Andrius Kupcinskas, and the President of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation Vladas Garastas.
"I think that Lithuania has passed their first test with great success, and I believe that this is a good signal that we will have a very well organized tournament in 2011." Vassilakopoulos commented.
During his visit Vassilakopoulos visited the site of the brand new arena in Kanuas, which is still under construction.
"I was here a year ago and visited the site where you are building your new arena," he said.
"The progress you have made in that time is really something fantastic."
Filling the new 14,000-plus seat arena should not be a problem, the final of the U16 Championship drew an overflow crowd to watch the host team fall to Spain 70-64.
