FIBA Europe Secretary General Opens Lemesos Arena

FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin was in Cyprus on Wednesday where he officially opened EuroCup side EKA AEL Lemesos' brand new arena.

Lemesos opened their tenure at the 2,500 capacity Nikos Solomonides Arena (named after a former president of the club) in style, beating Estonian side BC Kalev 67-49 in the EuroCup.

The arena, which features the club's offices, a restaurant, workout area and 12 VIP boxes will also be the base for Lemesos' women's basketball and volleyball teams.

As well as opening the Nikos Solomonides Arena, Zanolin was also in Cyprus to attend a press conference launching the logo and web site for the 2006 EuroCup All-Star Day.

In 2004, Cyprus organised the FIBA Europe League All-Star Day in Nicosia. The event proved to be a success and FIBA Europe granted EKA the right to host the event again in 2005, this time at another new venue, a 6,500 capacity arena in Limassol.

"The construction of this arena is a further sign of the good work being done in Cyprus by EKA AEL Lemesos and the national federation," said Zanolin.

FIBA Europe has enjoyed a particularly good relationship with EKA and we are really looking forward to hosting another All-Star Day here in March next year."
