Referees Offered Refresher

Just like players, referees hone their craft through hard work and practice. 

With that in mind over 300 officials from across Europe will participate in a refresher clinic for referees to take place over four weekends in Munich, Germany and Grand Canaria, Spain in May and June.

FIFA has invited 54 referees and 12 professional instructors to prepare for their showcase event, the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, using an educational platform created in part by FIBA Europe Referee Co-ordinator Miguel Betancor.

At the recent Clinic for National Instructors in Gran Canaria, the FIBA Europe Referee Department presented the latest set of teaching materials, that will support the national federations in the training and development of both national and international referees.

Refereeing Co-ordinator Miguel Betancor presented the materials over the 3 day clinic.

Referees Clinic Concluding In Gran Canaria

The second clinic for FIBA Europe Referee Instructors and Potential Referees is nearing its conclusion.

A total of 24 instructors, 28 European referees and one Asian referee attended this week, representing 34 countries.

26 International Referee Candidates and 10 International Commissioner candidates from 23 countries travelled to Bulgaria recently to try to attempt to gain their International FIBA licences.
