FIBA Europe League All Star Day Set for March in Kiev

22 January 2004

FIBA Europe announced today that the FIBA Europe League All Star Day will take place on 16th March 2004 in Kiev, Ukraine.

The format of the game will be Europe v. Rest of the World. Rosters will consist of 12 players per side and the game will be played to the usual FIBA Europe League rules.

10 players per side will be voted by the head coaches of all the FIBA Europe League clubs, as well as by a fan vote on fibaeurope.com. The final 2 players per team will be selected by a FIBA Europe panel of experts. Voting has already begun and will continue until the end of February, 2004.

The coaching staff will be selected by the same FIBA Europe panel and announced in February.

“The idea of having an All Star game was first suggested during the General Assembly of clubs in July 2003,” said FIBA Europe Executive Director Nar Zanolin.

“Thanks to the co-operation with BC Kyiv, that idea is now a reality. This will be the first time that we have had an All Star game for a specific competition and we are excited about it. All of the clubs in the FIBA Europe League were very much in favour of the idea, and with everybody’s co-operation we think it will be a successful event.”
